Clinical Experience and Forensic Assessment
In addition to my forensic practice, I maintain an active clinical psychiatry practice that includes both psychotherapy and medication management. I work with individuals across a broad range of psychiatric conditions and levels of severity, often developing treatment relationships that span months or years. This ongoing clinical work provides direct experience with how psychiatric symptoms emerge, evolve, respond to treatment, and affect functioning over time.
Longitudinal clinical experience offers a perspective that is not always available in a single forensic evaluation. Through ongoing treatment, I observe the natural course of psychiatric illness, the effects of personality and developmental factors, the impact of trauma, and the ways in which symptoms may change across different contexts and stages of life. This experience informs my understanding of psychiatric presentations that may initially appear similar but ultimately reflect different underlying conditions.
Many forensic referrals involve complex questions of differential diagnosis rather than straightforward application of diagnostic criteria. Symptoms may overlap across psychotic disorders, trauma-related conditions, dissociative phenomena, personality pathology, neurodevelopmental conditions, and concerns regarding symptom validity. My approach emphasizes careful phenomenological assessment, thorough review of records, consideration of alternative explanations, and integration of psychiatric, psychological, and forensic evidence. The objective is not simply to assign a diagnosis, but to determine which explanation is most consistent with the available evidence and most relevant to the legal questions at issue.
